“File in Use” error: “<filename> is locked for editing by ‘another user’. Open ‘Read-Only’ or click ‘Notify’ to open read-only and receive notification when the document is no longer in use.


But it is verified that when you get the error NO ONE is accessing the file and according to the server the file is not being accessed.

So, this is quite frustrating as what is causing the error.  Moreover, there is no any exact reason as what is causing the error but here follow some possible workarounds that will help you to resolve the error and access your files in Excel 2007 and 2010.


Ways to Resolve “File in Use” Error in Excel 2007 & 2010


Solution 1: Convert the file to XLS format:


Well, as we said above when we double click the XLSX file located on the network, it starts displaying the error.
